Performing maintenance on 24VDC conveyor systems is safer than working with traditional line-voltage equipment, but safety should still be the top priority. Whether you’re replacing rollers, checking connections, or troubleshooting sensors, follow these common safety practices to prevent injury:

  1. Lock Out, Tag Out (LOTO)

Always disconnect and lock out power before performing any work. Even 24V systems can cause unexpected movement or electrical shock if energized.

  1. Discharge Stored Energy

24V MDR systems may retain stored energy in capacitors or drives. Wait several minutes after power down before starting work to ensure safe conditions.

  1. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Wear proper PPE—gloves, eye protection, and safety shoes—especially when working with tools or moving mechanical parts.

  1. Avoid Loose Clothing and Jewelry

Keep hands and clothing away from rollers and belts, even if the system is off. Accidental engagement or unexpected startup can happen without proper LOTO.

  1. Verify Zone Status

24V systems often use zone-based control. Confirm all zones are disabled and not simply idle before beginning maintenance.

  1. Follow Manufacturer Guidelines

Use OEM-recommended replacement parts and procedures. Improper installations can lead to premature failure or safety hazards.
